LG Dryer tE1 or tE3 Error: Thermistor Problem
Short answer: tE1 on an LG dryer means the dryer detected a thermistor (temperature sensor) problem. LG gives tE3 the same meaning. LG's first fix is a factory reset: unplug the dryer, wait, and restart. If the code returns, the dryer needs service.
What tE1 means
LG says tE1 (and tE3) means the dryer detected a problem with its thermistor, the temperature sensor the control uses to regulate heat. LG's published fix is usually a factory reset. If the code comes back after the reset, LG says the dryer may need service.

Safe checks
- Turn the dryer off and unplug it (or switch off its breaker).
- Wait a few minutes, plug it back in and start a short cycle.
- While it is unplugged, clean the lint screen and confirm the vent is not blocked. Poor airflow makes the dryer run hot.
- If tE1 or tE3 returns, note when it appears (at start-up or mid-cycle) and book LG service.
When to stop
Do not open the cabinet to test or replace the thermistor yourself. Stop using the dryer if it smells hot or scorched, if the cabinet is unusually hot, or if the code returns after a reset.
