LG Washer tcL Code: Tub Clean Reminder, Not a Fault
Short answer: tcL on an LG front-load washer is not an error. LG uses it to remind you to run the Tub Clean cycle. Empty the drum, run Tub Clean, and the reminder clears.
What tcL means
tcL is a tub-clean reminder, not a component-failure diagnosis. LG says it is time to run the Tub Clean cycle; the notice can remain for a few cycles until the maintenance cycle is completed.
Confirm the model on the WM3400CW support page and compare the message with LG's front-load code guide.
Safe checks
- Empty the drum completely. Do not wash clothing with the tub-clean chemical.
- Add a washer-cleaning product in the manner stated by its label and the LG manual; do not mix cleaners.
- Select Tub Clean and start the cycle. Keep the door closed while the hot cycle runs.
- Wipe away residue from the door gasket and leave the door ajar after the cycle so the interior can dry.
When to stop
Stop for a leak, unusual smoke or smell, a door that will not latch, a code other than tcL, or a reminder that remains after the correct empty cycle. Do not use bleach and a commercial cleaner together.
Parts You Might Need
- Front-load washer tub cleaner for the empty maintenance cycle
- Microfiber cloths for wiping the gasket after cleaning
