LG Washer Sud Code: Too Many Suds

Short answer: Sud on an LG front-load washer means it detected too many suds and added a suds-reducing step. Use a smaller amount of HE detergent next time. It is a detergent problem, not a broken pump.

What Sud means

Sud means the washer has detected too many suds. LG says excess foam can interrupt spinning and add time while the machine reduces the suds. The usual correction is detergent type and amount, not a replacement pump.

Use the WM3400CW support page and LG front-load error-code guidance.

Safe checks

  1. Let the washer finish its suds-reduction action if it is not overflowing or leaking. Do not add more detergent.
  2. For the next load, use HE detergent and the smallest amount the detergent and load require. Never use dish soap in the washer.
  3. Run the tub-clean cycle when the washer is empty if residue or foam persists, following the model manual.
  4. If Sud returns with the correct product and amount, run an empty rinse and arrange service if the issue continues.

When to stop

Stop for a leak, foam escaping the drawer, water on the floor or a code that persists after detergent correction and cleaning. Do not pour defoamer, bleach or unapproved chemicals into the washer to force a result.

Parts You Might Need

  • HE detergent made for front-load washers
  • Washer tub-clean product, used only according to its label and the LG manual

Return to the LG WM3400CW code hub, or read OE if foam is preventing normal draining.
