LG Washer FE Error: Water Overfill

Short answer: FE on an LG front-load washer means it detected an overfill. If water keeps running in while the washer is off, close both taps immediately and arrange service. LG lists E04 and E12 as the same message on other displays.

What FE means

FE indicates that the washer has detected an overfilled tub. LG notes that excess water can be connected with the water-level system, water supply or detergent conditions. Do not treat FE as proof that a particular valve or sensor needs replacement.

Check the WM3400CW product-support page and LG's front-load code guidance.

Safe checks

  1. If water continues entering while the washer is off, close both household taps immediately.
  2. Unplug the washer and keep the floor and outlet dry. Do not try to remove panels while water is present.
  3. Check whether excessive detergent or suds were present and use only the recommended HE detergent amount on a later test.
  4. After the tub is safe and empty, perform one restart. If FE returns, stop and arrange service rather than repeatedly filling the machine.

When to stop

Stop for rising water, a leak, water entering with the appliance off, a wet outlet or repeated FE. Do not manually energize a valve, disconnect internal hoses or attempt to test the pressure system without qualified service.

Parts You Might Need

  • HE washer detergent, only in the quantity specified for the load and product
  • WM3400CW inlet valve or water-level part, only after exact-model diagnosis

Return to the LG WM3400CW code hub, or read PE for the water-level sensor message.
