LG Washer dE Error: Door Not Closed or Not Locking
Short answer: dE on an LG front-load washer means the door is not closed properly; LG gives dE1 the same meaning, and dE2 means the door is closed but not locked. Remove anything caught in the gasket, close the door firmly and restart.
What dE means
On LG front-load washers, dE means the door could not close or lock. LG's guidance groups the door message with related dE1/dE2 and model-specific variants, so this guide keeps the WM3400CW model boundary instead of treating every LG display as identical.
Read the WM3400CW support page and LG's front-load error-code guide before acting.
Safe checks
- Stop the cycle and wait until the drum is still. Keep fingers clear of the hinge and latch.
- Open the door and remove any garment caught between the glass, gasket and front rim. Check that the gasket is seated rather than folded into the latch path.
- Close the door firmly without slamming it and retry once.
- If dE remains, switch the washer off, unplug it, wait, then hold START/PAUSE for five seconds before restoring power, as LG describes for this door family.
When to stop
Stop if the latch is cracked, the door is sagging, the gasket is torn, the door will not release, or dE returns with an empty drum. Do not tape the door shut, bypass the interlock or run a cycle with the lock defeated; arrange service.
Parts You Might Need
- WM3400CW door-lock or latch assembly, only after a technician or exact parts lookup identifies it
- LG front-load washer door gasket, if the seal is visibly torn or distorted
Return to the LG WM3400CW code hub, or compare IE if the door closes but the washer does not fill.
