LG Gas Dryer gAS Error: No Gas Supply

Short answer: gAS on an LG gas dryer (it can look like "9A5" on the display) means the dryer is not receiving gas. Check that the gas shutoff valve behind the dryer is open and that other gas appliances work. Leave burner and gas-line work to a qualified gas technician, and leave the house and call the gas utility if you smell gas.

What gAS means

LG says gAS means a gas dryer is not receiving gas. On gas models the display can show it as "9A5," which spells GAS. The DLE3400W is electric; this code applies to its gas twin, the DLG3401W, and other LG gas dryers.

Source: LG's dryer error code list and the DLE3400W support page. Other LG dryers and regions can use different labels; check the rating plate inside the door and your owner's manual.

Safe checks

  1. If you smell gas at any point, stop. Do not operate switches, leave the house and call your gas utility from outside.
  2. Check that other gas appliances (a range or water heater) are working, so you know the gas service is on.
  3. Check that the shutoff valve on the gas line behind the dryer is open (the handle runs parallel to the pipe).
  4. If gas was recently shut off or the connector was replaced, ask the installer to confirm the line was purged and connected correctly.
  5. If the supply is on and gAS persists, book service with a qualified gas appliance technician.

When to stop

Never disconnect gas fittings, test for leaks with a flame or open the burner assembly yourself. Gas work is for a qualified technician.
