Samsung Washer SUD or 5UD: Excess Suds and the Detergent Check
Samsung US lists SUd, 5UD, Sd, 5d, SUdS and 5Ud5 as excessive-suds messages. Its guidance says the washer pauses to let the suds subside, then continues automatically. The message may appear again at the end as a reminder.
The code alone does not establish a failed pump or a need for a replacement part. First preserve the full display and match it to the exact model's manual. Samsung US code reference

This is a reading aid for Samsung's US support families, not a universal table for every washer or country. Record letters, numbers and any additional message exactly; segmented displays can make a quick recollection unreliable.
What to do with an isolated suds message
Allow the documented suds-management process to run when the machine is otherwise behaving normally. Samsung's official excess-suds video also describes automatic continuation. Neither source supplies a universal countdown that applies to every load and model.
Repeated power cycling is not a substitute for checking the detergent. Do not open a service panel or buy a component merely because the display says SUD.
If the washer does not resume, produces another code, leaks or behaves abnormally, preserve those details and follow the exact model's support instructions. A suds message does not prove that every other symptom has the same cause.
Check the detergent evidence
Samsung specifies HE detergent and advises measuring the amount for the detergent and load. The dispenser's MAX line is a ceiling, not a target for every wash. Placement also depends on the detergent form and machine configuration. Samsung detergent guidance
For the next support conversation, record:
- The washer's complete model number and country of use.
- The full code and whether the cycle eventually finished.
- The detergent name, HE marking, concentration and measured dose.
- Whether a pod, manual compartment or automatic dispenser was used.
- Any second additive, recent detergent change or additional symptom.
For a machine with automatic dosing, consult its manual about concentration and dose settings. Do not combine automatic and manual dosing on the assumption that more detergent improves cleaning.
